Hardscaping Built to Suit Exeter Properties

Up North Scapes builds patios, walkways, and retaining walls for Exeter homeowners from our base in Newmarket, a short drive away. The two towns sit close together on the inland side of the Seacoast, which makes Exeter one of the easiest places in our service area for us to schedule, visit, and support after the build.

Many Exeter properties have an established character, with mature trees, older homes, and landscapes that have been in place for decades. New hardscape should look like it belongs there. We put real attention into material selection, whether that means natural stone that suits an older home or a paver style and color that sits comfortably next to existing brick and granite. If you are not sure which material fits your property, we walk the site with you and lay out the options before any design work begins.

Ground Conditions and Why They Matter

Inland Seacoast soils vary lot by lot, from sandy pockets to heavier ground that holds water. Wet ground plus a New Hampshire winter is the combination that wrecks hardscape, because saturated soil expands as it freezes and lifts whatever sits on it. The material on the surface matters far less than the preparation underneath it. Steps, walls, patios, and walkways all follow the same rule: what happens below grade decides how the surface performs above it.

That is why every Up North Scapes project starts with excavation, base compaction, and drainage planning before anything decorative happens. Our hardscaping page explains the full system, our excavation and drainage page covers the site work that supports it, and our service areas page shows everywhere we work.
